Verse (Roman transliteration)

Yogarato Vaa Bhogarato Vaa, Sangarato Vaa Sangataheetah Yasya Brahmaani Ramate Chittam, Nandati Nandati Nandatyeva

Translation

Whether engaged in yoga or in pleasure, whether in company or in solitude — one whose mind delights in Brahman truly rejoices, rejoices, rejoices.

The teaching

The penultimate verse reveals the great secret: liberation is not about what you do but about the quality of awareness you bring. Whether you are a yogi or a householder, in community or in solitude, active or contemplative — if your mind rests in the ground of pure being, joy is the natural result. The three-fold repetition of "rejoices" is Shankara's exclamation of wonder.

Living this today

Illustrative example: At dinner, leave the phone elsewhere for the first few minutes and listen to the people at the table. The invitation is to try a different quality of attention in an ordinary setting.
